This church consists of several attached buildings built in the 1950s and 1960s. Inadequate for the congregation’s needs, multiple floor levels make handicapped accessibility impossible, the social hall and adjacent kitchen are much too small, and program areas for children and youth are lacking. The feasibility study began with an assessment of the buildings and grounds to identify existing inadequacies and areas in need of improvement. Pastors, staff, building committee members, and activity groups were engaged in interactive programming studies. Alternative redevelopment concepts were simplified for use by church development officials for fundraising. The illustration, simplifying complex operational and functional relationships, was created for fundraising purposes.
The church is moving forward with creating a more welcoming presence including hardscape and softscape improvements and to address accessibility with multiple new entrance enhancements and a new elevator.
