Flagship headquarters for Maryland’s largest child abuse prevention organization, The Family Tree serves more than 13,000 individuals annually in every Maryland County with its 50-person staff and more than 450 volunteers. Administering the spectrum of services for at-risk families delivered in the home, school and throughout the community, the building serves as a model training center and an incubator for developing new approaches for strengthening family bonds and lessening child abuse and neglect. Following programming, master planning, site selection, and feasibility the solution joined three adjacent rowhouses. Floor levels were realigned, new MEP systems integrated, and a new elevator inserted. Rear yards were combined to provide surface parking. The facility houses a community learning center, meeting rooms, a children’s learning lab, family-to-family mentoring rooms, and a research library for university students and professionals studying in the field.
